The Bell is hosting two major events on the
first Thursday of the festival
|
The Bell,
under the new ownership of Peter and
Lynette Rowntree, are enthusiastically
entering into the spirit of Winfest 26,
hosting two events on Thursday, 1st
October.
The first starts at
12 Noon and runs until closing time at
11pm. A real fun event, we are
invited to join the Mini PUB GAMES
Challenge. Put your skills to the
Challenge. Throw three darts, pot as
many balls on the pool table as you can
in one minute, then throw three skittle
bowls, record your scores, add them all
together.
The top score at the
end of the event wins the title of ‘The
Bell Mini Pub Games Champion 2026’ and
wins a prize (not yet known!). Entry
costs £1 and half the proceeds go to a
charity yet to be decided.
Sounds as if this
might become a regular annual event-who
knows!
Just call in when passing, and have a
go. You may even fancy a drink to help
inspire or help you recover from your
efforts!

| Something really new. Winsham falls
within the orbit of Chard's 'Inner Wheel' and we do have
members living in Winsham, so we were delighted when
they said that they would like to take part. Enjoy a
nice tea and trip the 'light fantastic' in between
delicious cake! |

Winsham
Festival starts with a programme of popular Chamber Music
Kilima Quartet are the opening event
in our first Festival of Arts and leisure on Saturday
26th September at 7.00pm in St. Stephens Church. They
will be playing a repertoire of popular, well known
pieces in a venue, that as far as we know, has never
before hosted a recital of chamber music.
The full details of the music they are performing can be
found on the notice below.
Led by Rowan Patterson, who lives just outside the
village, and a very talented violinist, her colleagues
on second violin (Polly Orr-Ewing), viola (Alex Chivers)
and 'cello ( Ruth Wakefield) are all professional
musicians, who delight in playing together as a string
quartet. They often give recitals ,on a regular basis at
Kilema Farm.
We are very fortunate to be able to experience such
lovely music live, and witness for ourselves the
expertise of the quartet, expressing themselves in what
is generally acknowledged by classical musicians, as one
of the most exciting forms of performance-the string
quartet. |

| When the planning for the festival
began, about a year ago, it quickly became clear that
Winsham Art Club would be central to our deliberations,
both in terms of timing and because of its status as one
of the villages oldest and best established
organisations. |
Founded in 1960 by John
Thirtle FRSA, a Winsham resident. Offering free
tuition for a year, he quickly gathered together
fifteen enthusiastic amateurs around him , and
started classes in oils. In1962 , they held
their first exhibition in Jubilee Hall, and this
tradition has continued almost uninterrupted
since then. Now spread over three days visitors
can enjoy the high standard of work created by
its members in a wide range of media.
All the work on display is available to
purchase.
The Winsham also maintains its reputation for
being a 'teaching club' arranging many
workshops, run by experts in their particular
area of graphic arts. They generally meet on a
Monday afternoon in the Jubilee Hall. |

arranged programme of over twenty-five Winfest
events, spread over two weeks, can be found on a

A few events require tickets, but most
offer free admission, but some need to charge.
Ticketed events usually need to limit numbers so
if you wish to attend a ticketed event, obtain
your ticket as quickly as possible to avoid
disappointment. A printed programme is available
from Winsham Shop.
