WINSHAM CIDER BONANZA
How could Winsham possibly have an Arts and Leisure
Festival without it including a
cider bonanza?
On the penultimate day of the close of the festival, this event is sure
to be one of the many highlights of our festival. This event is likely
to appeal to those who who have a real interest in the history and
culture of cider, supplemented by the opportunity for the cider drinking
cognoscenti (and others) to sample the delights of cider made
by experts, and available for purchase at the event.
A talk will be given by James Crowden
about the history of cider making, accompanied by the
famous pomologist Liz Copas who will talk about Somerset
Cider Apples. This is a timely event as local artisan
cider products are becoming very popular. Four leading cider producers
from our locality will be represented at the event.
Tickets £10 from Winsham Village Shop. Net
proceeds to Winsham United Charities.

The 'My Ballet 'talk is at 6pm, followed by the Mini Demonstration
Class; at 6.45pm, everyone is welcome to my usual my usual 'My Ballet
Class'
Ele's usual class will then follow
Modern Dance will then follow at 8-9pm
Jubilee Cafe Festival Event
The Jubilee Cafe is breaking with tradition
to enable it to enter into the spirit of our festival.
In October it will take place on Thursday, 8th October, at its
usual time 11am-12noon,instead
of the third Thursday of the month. Back to normal in November. |

SOMETHING REALLY NEW!
HELP CREATE THE
WINSHAM TAPESTRY
6-8pm, Tuesday,29th
September Jubilee Hall
It will not be a needlework
job, or two hundred and twenty-four feet long, but it will be produced
by the citizens of Winsham! And thanks to digital technology, and
perhaps Winsham Web Museum, it might survive a thousand years! It will
at least make the British Library!
Deborah Harris, a resident of
Winsham and a very talented artist and art teacher, has come up with a
brilliant idea. It is to encourage the residents of Winsham to
individually play a part in painting a picture representing aspects of
life in Winsham.
The details are on the poster
above, but if the good people of Winsham get carried away with their
efforts, may stretch till 9pm. Admission is free, and there
is no need to bring any brushes or art materials. It
promises to be an unusual, fun experience, and the hope is that the
finished picture will be displayed in the Jubilee Hall for some time to
come, for its many visitors to admire.
Literary Somerset
comes alive....
Those of us who are fortunate
enough to have obtained a copy of this excellent book written James
Crowden, Winsham resident will welcome this talk. It is inevitable that
it will provide additional insights to much loved authors and poets.
Our well know poet and author, explores the literary highways and byways
of Somerset from Anglo Somerset times right up to the present day. Not
just Wordsworth and Coleridge but William Dampier, T S Elliot, John
Steinbeck, John Locke, Thomas Hardy and the 2nd World War Poet John
Jarmain to name a few....

Many will have noticed that there are a
series of events offering Winsham people the opportunity to try
out groups offering an introduction, without charge, to a wide
range of interests. Some are quite small, but nonetheless
important, fun, and often providing a framework in which members
can enjoy exercise, mental as well as physical.
