Winsham Pre-School & Toddlers

Winsham Pre-school was established in 1984  The pre-school uses the village school, moving from the Jubilee Hall  in July 2006.

In 2007 the  pre-school will run five mornings a week  from 9:15 until 12:15 pm. There is a Mother's & Toddlers group held on Wednesdays,1.00-2.30pm

Our pre-school is registered by OFSTED, which ensures that we offer the highest quality care for children. We are a registered charity and members of the pre-school learning alliance.

The pre-school is run by a committee made up from volunteers elected each year at an annual general meeting, mainly of parents/carers of children in the pre-school. The committee is responsible for the general running of the pre-school working to a constitution set up by the pre-school learning alliance, the committee also undertakes fundraising through jumble sales, book parties etc.

Many of the children who attend the pre-school live in the village, but several come from Chard and the surrounding villages.

The aims of our pre-school:

·   For the staff, committee and other parent/carers to work together in close partnership to ensure that there is a well-run and friendly community-based pre-school and toddler group in the village for 0-5 year old children.

·   To ensure that the pre-school provides a fun stimulating environment in which all children have the opportunity to develop and learn through play.

·   To maintain a good rapport and effective communication between staff and parent/carers thus ensuring that all individual needs are met and opportunities maximised for each child to develop at their own pace and enjoy their time at pre-school.

Children are accepted at Winsham Pre-school during the half term in which they are three years old. At the supervisors discretion children can be accepted when they are two years six months.

A parent/carer must at all times accompany any children under pre-school age and take full responsibility for that child throughout the session. All these guidelines are in accordance with OFSTED and The Pre-school Learning Alliance and our own pre-school policies.

Key Worker System.

At Winsham Pre-school we operate a key worker system, which involves staff members observing, assessing and keeping work and confidential records on all pre-school children. With the consent from parents/carers, all children on starting pre-school are allocated a key worker. These records are kept in a locked file, with the staff being the only ones with access.  Each member of staff has read, understands and has signed a confidentiality policy.

We hope the key worker system will help parents/carers to build a strong relationship with staff to assist in the development of their child. It can be arranged for parent/carers to look at their child's key worker file at any time, and every term parent/carers will be given their child's key worker file to take home and read and to make comments or suggestions on the file if they wish to.  If parent/ carers wish to discuss anything about their child's records and development their key worker will always be happy to assist.
