WINSHAM HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
Annual Show 2008

Newsletter No.5-August 2008

Short review of the Show

It was good to see the Annual Show so well supported: lots of people there and a good atmosphere. The poor growing conditions this summer made it difficult to find enough good specimens of vegetables and flowers to exhibit but although there were fewer entries than last year the quality was excellent. There are many people without whose help the Show could not possibly have gone on: they are too numerous to mention and, in any case, there is a danger I might inadvertently miss someone out! But they all worked like Trojans. Thank you to all of them.

I couldn't believe how brilliant the scarecrows were. I do hope more of you will have a go next year.

It would be useful to have some feedback from all of you on the Show and especially to see what would encourage more of you to enter. I would really value your opinions on the following questions:

  1. Would you feel more like entering if some classes were open only to residents of Winsham?
  2. Would you like to see any different classes/categories?

Are there any other changes you would like to see?
Please let me know while it's fresh in your mind (tel: 30163)

Coming up soon
Our next outing will be on Thursday 18th September to Mapperton Gardens, near Beaminster. We will also be able to have a guided tour of the house. This lovely Elizabethan manor house won Best Small Manor House last year and was also voted one of the top ten small gardens.
Finally, we have a talk arranged on the subject of vegetables. Please note that this was originally billed for Wednesday 5th November but has been brought forward to 2.30pm on Wednesday 29 October.
