St Stephen’s receives £76,300 for Roof Repair
Fund

St Stephen’s Church will benefit from £76,300 to address urgent roof repairs, as a result of an application made by the St.Stephen's Parochial Parish Council to the Government-funded Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund.

A recent architect’s inspection identified nearly £200,000 of work to the tower, chancel and vestry. This has been prioritised and we are initially concentrating on the tower. Last year we launched an appeal and together with ongoing local fundraising have raised in excess of £10,000, and in addition we are contributing most of our own funds. We are now appealing to other smaller grant awarding bodies. Because the building is listed the Church Commissioners have responsibility for the chancel, and this will enable work to proceed concurrently. St Stephen’s is the oldest building in the village, is much loved, and this project will ensure that it is preserved for the benefit of future generations.

However, despite the good news of the grant, money will continue to be needed, and local fund raising will  continue. The on-going generosity of the people of Winsham is greatly appreciated.
