Run by
the village, for the village,
this resource is of vital importance to parish life. The essential role
of the Post Office, and the wide range of groceries and other
merchandise at reasonable prices in the Shop, saves many the time and
expense of trips into Ch ard
or Crewkerne. It is a community meeting point, and a main distributor of
village and parish information.
In
2002 the shop was saved from closure by the active and imaginative
effort of a large number of people living in the parish, who raised
money and often invested their own to ensure that this valuable resource
did not close. A
volunteer force numbering about twenty supplement the existing staff,
and enable the shop to be open seven days a week. A result of this has
been a considerable increase in the volume of business for both the shop
and the Post Office as well as a greatly increased range of merchandise
being available.
