The opening of the Internet
cafe in June 2007 is an interesting and challenging venture for the Jubilee
Hall. It had long been felt by many that Winsham would be well served by a cafe
serving reasonably priced hot & cold drinks and light snacks. With the
introduction of public access Broadband and its need for supervision, the
Jubilee Hall saw a way of achieving both requirements.
As a result the Jubilee Hall entered into a partnership with Tiger and Oshen,
who are responsible for the day to day management of the enterprise. They also
manage the Broadband facility when the Cafe is open.
It is of course of great concern to the Jubilee Hall Management Committee that
the new facility will not interfere with long standing arrangements with
existing Hall users, especially those using the Committee Room and/or the
kitchen facilities. In the agreement with Oshen and Tiger these arrangements
will not only continue to be honoured, but these facilities will continue to be
available to new hirers, by agreement.
Our experience to-date is that the Cafe is proving a valuable service to
existing hirers and new hirers making it possible to serve refreshments during
breaks, and before meetings. It is also beginning to become a popular 'drop-in'
spot after shopping at the Winsham Shop and a rendezvous for a chat with
friends.
We encourage everyone who can to use the Internet Café to do so. It is
providing a socially worthwhile facility and in doing so it will also make a
valuable contribution towards the running costs of the hall. Like most things in
our small community, initially, it will need active support to make it
truly viable.
